OVERVIEW
ILLUMINATE YOUR LIFE
Lumo is a lighting system designed to brighten up low-light routines with a soft light. Many people need light to finish up various tasks at night or in low-light situations. But, overhead lighting is often too harsh, and stationery lights are confining to a single space. Lumo brings portability and comfort to these routines, giving new possibilities to illuminate your life.
IDEATION
FORM DEVELOPMENT
The portability aspect made for an opportunity to create an interesting interaction between the base and the lamp itself. I found myself leaning towards bulbous, organic forms that softly transitioned between the base and lamp. The highlighted iteration is the form that made the most sense to move forward with as inspiration.
VISUAL IDENTITY
Once the low-light use was determined, I honed in on the feeling of “friendly, sophisticated comfort”. When developing the mood board, I focused on potential environments, forms to explore, or generally any textures that evoked the feeling of comfort.
The form was modeled in Fusion360 with a total of four parts— two translucent shell pieces, and two handle enclosures; all of the pieces were 3D printed and sanded for a smooth finish. The base was modeled out of yellow foam, and given a few rounds of spackle and sanding to achieve a smoother look before finishing off with matte green spray paint. I modeled a stand support on the inside of the shades to hold the light, which for demo purposes is connected to an on-off switch through a cord.

MIX + MATCH
Lumo comes in a variety of colors to best fit a wide variety of spaces. The final form is organic, with smooth and rounded edges to achieve the comforting feeling. The stand is perfectly fitted so the light doesn’t move around while it’s mounted and can easily be removed by the user.
